Engine failed and the pilot landed on RF8001 skis in 7000 ft. Spark plug exited the cylinder causing extreme vibrations. The RF8001 saved the plane from flipping over. Nobody hurt no damage on the plane. Looks like the piston pin exited. How in the hell can that happen

Those A-Stars are work horses! I bet that cost a lot.

No idea what that kind of ride costs on that side of the pond, but I have some idea what‘s involved in my neck of the woods. In my case I can blame only boneheaded choices as the root cause.

It seems that it started with a stuck valve. Then the Cap came off the piston hit the open bent valve, Piston split, rod cam apart .....He was lucky to have skis and mountain landing training.
