Baffle Connectors / Oil return tubes

Recently discovered at an inspection that the rubber protectors of the Baffle connecting rods were rubbing and chafing on the oil return tubes. Loosening the connecting wires a few turns and bending the connecting wires away from the oil return lines solves the problem. The protection Rubber was almost chafed through to the wirecore. Please check your planes, an open oil return line is not nice to have. Look sideways between the bottom of the cylinders and you will see the oil returns touching that 1/4 inch thick black protection rubber. Rotate it with a screwdriver to see if it was chafing. Thanks

Those rods (springs on some Lycoming installations) are always a problem… Interference with the oil return lines and on a Husky with the CHT/ EGT leads make it a mess, Scat tubing routed that way doesn’t help either.

Everyone needs to put extra time into the area under the cylinders to make sure nothing is chafing and everything is secure.

Mine was a mess when I bought it and it was a factory.
