Our Husky at Jack Brown's SPB in Florida.

Talk about glassy water...can't tell sea from sky when you're standing on it!

Nope, didn't see it. Wish I had known. Now that I've flown home to Washington State, we two seaplanes couldn't be farther apart. We could have a splash-in in Kansas. But you've got straight floats and we've got amphibs...I might as well send you the Short Takeoff trophy now.

You sure are right about short take off, I have owned both on the same lake
and could not believe the difference. I started on straight floats, and then bought an amphib thinking I didn't need the straight floats, wrong.
It sure is handy just like the trip you made to florida to have amphibs.
But once you have been spoiled with straights, it's hard to let go.

I sold the amphib and kept straight floats.

I like your small N numbers though!!! That sure is a good looking bird.
How long was your journey? It looked like a fun one.

We thought long and hard about the amphibs, all right. In the end, though, we don't have a place to keep a straight-float airplane, and we need to land on the water. So amphibs it was, and accept the longer takeoff slides. And without the wheels, that long crosscountry would have been a bit more challenging.

It was some 28 flying hours from Winter Haven to Seattle. We took some of the wash out of the wing to fly slower for local flying, which gives a cruise of around 92 mph. Still stalls gracefully, and MN to FL to WA gives you time to reflect, enjoy scenery, pay bills, etc.

Beautiful pics and aircraft...thanks for the invitation!

When I left central FL, the lake levels were low and getting lower, everybody waiting for the next tropical storm to fill things up. Any rain in the last few months?

Alaska is the one state we've never landed. My friends there tell me the place is beautiful but crawling with bears, and that the bigger ones enjoy Huskys for snacks, now and then. On floats, one can anchor in the middle of the lake, they tell me, and then only have to deal with those bears who prefer their snacks after a swim.

Ahhhh come on ZZ, the mosquitoes are more worry than the bears! :p

Seriously, bears are not a problem if the proper precautions are taken. Bears are more afraid of you then you are of them, usually. Go up and enjoy!

Reminds me of the story about the ranger telling the hikers to watch out for gizzley bears and black bears. This after he tells them to always wears bells and carry pepper spray.

He tells how to tell the difference between black bear track and grizzley bear track.

Black bear track is small and round and may have nuts and fur in it. Grizzley bear track is larger, smells like pepper and may have little bells in it! :D:D

Great Scott, Kurt! The bears up there eat tourists like jellybeans, demolish houses for one little lick of butter, come running at gunshots because they know there's a delicious hunter out there, reloading.

And now you're telling us that in Alaska the mosquitoes are _worse than the bears?!_

Supershortfield takeoff to escape your charging Kodiak and you're impaled before you get your flaps up by a _Gigantic Mosquito?_

So many fly to Alaska, so few fly back. Nice to know why.
