Setting up your account on flyhusky

Our vbulletin software has a lot of power. To help you get started here's a few things to do right away.

All of your user customization options are accessible by clicking on the "UserCP" link in the upper left end of the menu bar. Here you can add your avatar, customize your signature, add additional information, etc.

Also, notice in the area under Networking, the Pictures and Albums link. You are able to upload pictures sorted by albums that you can then share with your fellow Husky pilots.

Have fun!

Looks great Scott.

For some reason I can't edit my Avatar when clicking the "edit avatar" button. Does anybody have any ideas on what I am doin wrong?

Go to User CP in upper left hand end of menu bar

Click on Edit Avatar

Choose "Use Custom Avatar"

Upload a file that is less than 100 pixels by 100 pixels

This should work.

I am sorry Scott, after I click "edit avatar," I don't see a choice on "using custom avatar."

This is what I get after clicking "Edit Avatar"

"Your Current Avatar

No Avatar Specified

Avatars are small graphics that are displayed under your username whenever you post.

(Green Dot) Do not use an avatar

Note: if you have a custom avatar selecting this option will delete it."

It is quite possible that I need to select "custom avatar" somewhere else before I "edit it." I proly just need help getting to the right link.

I get the same response as lowlevelops. There is no option to upload the Avatar.

I sure hope that we don't all drive you nuts with repeated questions. You have done a nice job of setting the site up and hopefully it will become idiot proof as time goes by.

Regards
Eric

I can try it. As usage increases, those types of features demand more and more bandwidth. As a long thread loads, we're loading the avatar, the text and any embedded images, and signature images just adds to the load.

I'll turn it on and when we get to the point it begins effecting performance, I may need to turn it off.

Scott,

I'm just spending a few minutes poking around the site, looks good. I wasn't able to upload pictures, tried a few as a test and got 'security token missing' message...

Cheers,

Suggestion

Scott,
First let me start by saying thank you, I really enjoy the format.
1). Is there anywhere to donate so you can get some help offsetting some of your cost and fund more bandwith if you have the need.
2). Is there a way to have a View post since last visit link? I am thinking the one that currently says new posts means, all new posts.
3). Is there a way to have the main page come up with the latest threads without having to look through all the different headings.

I am only suggesting these because I know that some of the listers from an email type foru might find it easier to navigate. BCP and supercub.org have that format but I was not sure if you were able to have those options.

Again Scott, just suggestions I think you are doing a great job and would like to make sure you know we are thankful.

Photo problems

Scott:
When I try to upload a photo to go next to my name, it gives me a "upload failed" message.

Any suggestions?

Also, is the photo next to everyone's name an avatar?

For the folks that think it is too much trouble and takes to long to surf around the forum, I clicked the "New Posts" button and copied the address line into a shortcut on my desktop.

Now, one click from the desktop I have all of the new posts since your last visit or the last 24 hours posts in view......pretty simple! You do have to select the "Remember Me" button on your first sign in, but after that its pretty straight forward.

Thanks again Scott, for this great opportunity to share our experiences.:)

Not needed now. I'm happy to fund this to get it off the ground. Once it matures and becomes a viable community, I'll look for some help or resources.

Perhaps the first help I may need is assigning a couple people as moderators, helping me watch posts and watch for any spam that slips thru.

2). Is there a way to have a View post since last visit link? I am thinking the one that currently says new posts means, all new posts.

The New Posts link at the top should link to all new posts since your last visit.

3). Is there a way to have the main page come up with the latest threads without having to look through all the different headings.

Once you're in a thread that has new posts in it, there's a link in the upper left hand side of the thread listing that takes you to the unread portion of the thread.

There may be some other settings that I can do to make it easier, but I'm still learning my around as well.

The one thing each and everyone of you can do to help, is POST, POST, POST. We need content to attract new users and new users to post more content. It's a chicken or egg thing and it's really critical that early on we have current and ample content.

Post away!

The photo next to everyone's name is called an avatar. Your avatar is limited to 100 pixels by 100 pixels. If you are having trouble uploading your avatar, make sure it does not exceed these dimensions.

User Names

I am very disappointed that as I read all the new emails about 90% of you are strangers going by your user name, tag, ID, or wahtever you want to call it. I used to belong to a great group of Husky owners I knew by at least first names and usually first and last names. I'm not sure I want to continue to associate with a bunch of secret agents.

Scott,
I enjoy the site, but have been having trouble finding stuff a second time. Is there a way to find old threads? When I log on, it only gives me newer stuff. I tried using the "search" function, but couldn't find older posts that way either.
Also, I found the fill-in-the-map site, but can't get it into my posts....I tried to directly copy / paste while at the site itself, copy / paste from a saved map, and tried the insert image button above (that zapped in the URL, but when I tried Preview Post, it just left the URL and didn't convert it to a map.
Sorry if these are basic questions, I'm pretty new at this. (Sometime soon I'll figure out how to get photos onto my computer...then the fun will really begin!!)
