SGS Kit

The SGS kit is a kit that replaced the factory stop blocks. It makes the gear progressive and reduced loads to the diagonal struts when the gear in stopped on the rebound after a deflection.
It is easy to install, maintenance free and is covered by the STC for the RF 8001 skis.

With the SGS kit the Husky jumps a lot less that without. The largers tire you use, the less will you notice the SGS, but load reduction is still there.

Many users find this kit a must on the Husky.

The SGS kit does not work on the AOSS gear.

Available from Snowbirdxx@aol.com;)

Here's the tool others have used to help with the install of the SGS.

Can you please give me more information on the SGS kit? where to find it, price? what is the Aoss gear? I have a husky A1C 200 hp one year old and have the gear where you can put skis on; based in Andorra (Europe).

Thanks,

Enric.

I have the SGS kit on my plane and it is a terrific mod, Oh and I had Tom fly over here and install it which gives me a lifetime warranty
Now if I could just get those spades :)

I have the SGS kit with 29" ABWs....I love the combination.

With SGS kit installed the "banging in the floor" from bouncing on rough ground on take off and landing is gone. I have just under 10 landings on pavement in the Husky, so I can't testify to the performance on pavement. I have flown the Husky for almost 200hrs in the last year, landing pretty much anywhere I wanted to and the kit is great.

The kit took less than 45 minutes to install and the price was real reasonable. I have pictures of the two "stoppers" somewhere, I will see if I can find them.

Just drop Thomas a line, he will tell you all about it.

SGS mod vs. orginal part

Here's a shot of the original part on the left vs. the SGS mod.

Once you see and feel the difference in these two items, you'll understand why it works so well. The original part is as hard as a rock.

Don, we need to get you back in a Husky to colorize those remaining white states. You could knock out half of 'em by doing Root this summer...

I recently had the SGS installed on my 2007 A1B. Only 1 hour to install and I am sure you will like the results. Get ahold of Tom D.

Enric,

AOSS gear is a shock-absorbing suspension system that uses a polymer material inside the shock tubes and a Super Cub-type gear design (V-cabane). Website is www.aoss.net. I would guess there's at least 10 hours of welding needed to install the gear on a Husky. The kit alone cost $4500 when I got a quote for it last year. If you are landing off-airport a lot and have $6000 burning a hole in your pocket it might be worth it...otherwise start with the SGS kit that will cost you 5% of that amount.

thank you very much boys!
I will order the SGS kit and I understand the AOSS now.

Regards to all!

A Husky pilot down in Texas recently installed the AOSS system on his plane and he really likes it. It took a lot of welding and the labor alone came to roughly $12,000.

I would like to install the AOSS system, but for the time being have opted for the SGS and like it very much. Here is what Gary, the Texas Husky pilot, had to say about his AOSS instillation as posted on another forum.

"Nizina,
I forgot to provide an update once the AOSS was finished on my Husky. The total labor cost was $12,000. Steve Pierce did a great job on the project. I probably spent a little extra since he remade some belly skins rather than providing a patch where the former gear was located. I hope that this makes sense, but I don't like patches and Steve is a great fabricator, so the installation looks like Aviat did it, or better!

The performance is astounding: I can drop it on a hard surface at an alarming descent rate and get virtually no bounce. When off airport and descending agressively, no bounce whatsoever. The stock Husky gear would not perform like this, if you were descending at much more than a few feet per minute right at touch down, it would rebound and bounce. Also, no banging sounds when rolling on rough ground. I had the SGS mod on the Husky gear and it made less banging, but was still not ideal. While many Husky owners don't land on rough terrain, I do and this is a very worthwhile modification for this activity. The new gear and system is very durable and isn't as hard on the airframe. It is somewhat like putting springs and shocks on an old covered wagon, wow, what a nice ride we have now!"
