Summer Flying Season

The season of fly-ins, cookouts and stories shared around a campfire is just around the corner.

Those of you close enough to the Northwest are fortunate to be so close to so many fantastic place to fly.

Some of my fondest flying memories are based upon those times tooling around in the Frank Church Wilderness, buzzing into and out of strips only seen by the fortunate few.

The photos are of a fire getting underway 2 years ago, which cut our flying season short. The second is crossing the Rockies, just south and east of Butte, Montana....beautiful. The third was taken at Memaloose, Oregon. This strip sits atop the Snake River Canyon and after departing to the south, you can literally decend for nearly 4,000 feet and cruise the Snake River below.

Scott:
Don't assume that you have to be close to the NW to enjoy it. My pilot daughter and I will be heading west in the Husky leaving Florida around June 18th. It will be a 2-3 day trip to Bozeman but great scenery all the way.

Our first trip west was 4 years ago. This summer the plan is to leave the Husky out west and come out as often as possible to do some exploring in MT, UT and ID.

Well if you need some hangar space and want to come a little further West....I've got room in my hangar at Pasco.

I have always had a soft spot for the 67-68 Camaros. The 69 isn't bad either but I like the first two years best. Years ago I helped a guy rebuild at 302DZ motor for his '67, man that thing go!

Great car, and oh yeah.....Nice Airplanes!:)

Also, how do like your Hydroswing door? I am thinking of putting up a 65x18 Hydroswing, I was just wondering if you had any likes or dislikes on it.

I'm still getting used to it. Mine is 63 x 18 and that's a lot of object in the air!! Mine was built by Schweiss and I really like their package better then Hydroswing. I also thought their engineering seemed better.

It take about the same amount of time to open as did my bi-fold on my old hangar. It seems that it will require less maintenance, but have no history to back that up with.

If you put one in of that size, be prepared to beef up the column supports and everything else surrounding the area where the hydraulic cylinder attaches to the building. There's an incredible amount of force on that area and the farm boy in me wanted to beef it up even beyond what was specified. I'll post some detail pictures of that area when I get back home.

Thanks Scott, we have few plans other than a week up by West Glacier starting around the 22nd of June and visiting friends around Montana. Don't know Pasco; where is it?

Tim

Pasco is in the southern end of the Columbia Basin along the Columbia River in Eastern Washington. From here by Husky, I'm 3.0 hours to Bozeman, 1 hour to the Frank Church Wilderness.

As you can see by the Photo, Tim is serious about his cooking ;)

You mean the poor and fiscally irresponsible. Either I blow the money or my broker will for me. Why let him have all the fun?

BTW what Ki isn't telling you is that the picture shows his little camper where he and Ann "rough it." The D***N thing even has a fire place!
