Bumper, so does the marine grade stuff work, if your aircraft is on floats and then it's perfectly legal? Right?

its even legal if you fly the aircraft once for more than 5 seconds over water, not higher than 5000ft!

I see cigarett lighter sockets as such as uncritical, USB outlets can cause noise on the radio. kinda like opening the squelch. please chek yout USB outlets out by just wiring them up without a big mechanical installation,if they are quiet. Connect the USB device to be powered for that test and go fly. If the squelch noise shows up it could be either the USB socket or the powered device feeding the Hf of its processor into the aircrafts electrical system. That could happen with 12 v devices as well, if they have a processor. A FAA approved socket will seldom help in that case.

Thomas,

Early airplanes (Model A-1 and A-1A) are approved on EDO 2000 floats. Unfortunately, Baumann floats are no longer supported.

John,

Basler owns the Baumann TCs and has no interest in supporting the floats at all. They are great floats, the best for a Husky in my opinion. I've never measured the struts on the set that I flew for seven or eight seasons, but I'd bet they aren't much different than the Super Cub. Aviat MAY have some of that data, since they actually certificated the Baumann floats on the Husky, be worth a call. Mark Heiner did the flight test on those floats for certifcation. If I recall, the floats were mounted at +1 degree with reference to the wing, so they're fast. Apparently, Aviat wanted to mount them parallel to the wing, but the FAA wouldn't accept that.

Mike,
I love the Baumanns on my cub, bought one of the first sets from him back in the day, still have them and they are still the best in my view. Very light and outperform Edo's, have nice flat tops and nice lockers. Float the cub very high on the tails, they are out of the water when empty, and do not go under like Edo 2000's when loaded.
Will see about fitting them to the Husky once I have had the fun on wheels, it will be the lightest Husky in the world, will have real weights next month, but for sure under 1200lbs., with belly pod and extended cub gear, AOSS, and 29's. And pod weighs 16 lbs.

John,

I agree on the Baumanns, they are simply the best floats out there. It's really too bad Basler decided to kill further production or support. We ran a Husky on Baumanns against a very similar one on Wiplines, and, while close in performance, the Baumanns beat the Wips every takeoff.

WEstom,

left and right, where the lower cowl attaches to the firewall, on the bottom in the curce. The first 3 screws on each side.

Then the top corners of the lower cowl are covered by the top cowl flaps. These screws are countersunk. Outdrill the cowl to about 11mm and add a Tinnerman washer. That prevents the cowl from cracking. No w&b change needed.

No pic availabe right now.

No STC needed for that. its an Aviat Part. Call Elmar in Bolzano, he has some left if you need some.

I’ve heard most airlift operators don’t trust the rings an use the engine mounts and wing root/fuselage.

These folks used the lifting rings as well as an engine lifting lug. Wings and tail were bubble wrapped and then covered with netting material to spoil any lift and a piece of heavy rope hanging off the tail to try to keep it pointed forward. The only problem they had was the helicopter pilot was nervous about moving forward after the initial lift and hovered for a short while. Without forward motion the the downdraft caused it to start rotating and they almost cut it loose, but once they started moving forward it settled down nicely. It was about a 60 mile ride and they made it in just under an hour, so they moved along at a pretty good pace.

This is an awesome list; thank you Thomas and all who contributed.
I'm having trouble telling which items have an STC and which don't. Is there an easy way to discern?
